Trump Threatens To Keep Government Closed “For Months Or years”

President Trump on Friday confirmed that he told Democratic leaders he would be willing to keep the government closed for months or even years if they refuse to provide funding for his border wall with Mexico.

“I did, absolutely, I said that,” said the president, speaking with reporters after the morning meeting.

“I don’t think it will,” Trump added, “But I am prepared and I think I can speak for Republicans in the House and Republicans in the Senate. I hope it doesn’t go on even beyond a few more days. It really could open very quickly, I told them.”

Trump has directed Vice President Mike Pence, White House senior adviser (and his son-in-law) Jared Kushner and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to meet with the aides of top congressional leaders over the weekend to continue discussions on the shutdown impasse.

“We really cannot resolve this until we open up government, and we made that clear to the president,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) following the meeting – which Trump called “very productive.”

Around 25% of the federal government has been shut down for 14 days following Trump’s refusal to sign a spending package that did not include $5 billion he has requested for the wall.

On Thursday the House ignored Trump’s threat to veto any legislation without wall funding, passing two stopgap spending bills that would keep some parts of the government open as late as September.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell confirmed that Trump had agreed to direct his top aides to meet with Congressional aides over the weekend “to see if they can come up with an agreement to recommend back to us and to him and the various leaders.”

“The government couldn’t reopen until Tuesday anyway because we don’t have people here to vote,” McConnell told reporters in a statement at the Capitol.

Update2: Trump defended the idea of a steel wall instead of using concrete, despite stating on Monday that the idea of a concrete wall was “NEVER ABANDONED.” Some other highlights from his long speech:

  • TRUMP SAYS HE MIGHT CONSIDER FREEZING RAISES FOR CABINET
  • TRUMP WANTS APPLE TO MAKE IPHONES, OTHER PRODUCTS IN U.S.
  • TRUMP SAYS APPLE SHOULD MAKE PRODUCTS IN U.S., NOT CHINA
  • TRUMP SAYS HE THINKS HE WILL MAKE A DEAL WITH CHINA
  • TRUMP SAYS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT APPLE, STOCK MARKET

Responding to a comment made by brand new Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) that she would help Democrats “impeach the motherfucker,” Trump said “I thought her comments were disgraceful…I think she dishonored herself, and I think she dishonored her family.”

Update: Trump says that Pelosi told him she’s not looking to impeach him, adding “You can’t impeach somebody who’s doing a great job.”

The president also said that DACA will be discussed at another time.

resident Trump delivered remarks following an 11:30 a.m. meeting in the White House with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), House Majority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other congressional leaders.

Discussing the border wall, Trump said “We’re not playing games, we have to do it.”

The President added “I think we’ll have to build a steel wall instead of a concrete one … although steel is more expensive.”

President Trump confirmed that he told Pelosi and Schumer that the shutdown could last for months or years.

Pelosi and Schumer spoke outside the White House immediately following the meeting, where Schumer said that Trump threatened to keep government closed for months or years.

Emerging from the White House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) described a “lengthy and sometimes contentious conversation with the president.” She said both sides agreed to continue talks but added that Democrats don’t believe the standoff is resolved until the government is re-opened.

“We cannot resolve this until we open up government,” Pelosi said.

That sentiment was echoed by Schumer, who said “it’s very hard to see how progress will be made unless they open up the government.”

In contrast to what Democratic leaders said, Trump said the group came “a long way” during the meeting. –The Hill

Chinese company to take over key Israeli port

(Newsweek) A Chinese company is planning to take over management of Israel’s Haifa port as Beijing continues to advance its global influence in the form of economic projects and big commercial deals.

The Haifa port sits close to the hub of the Israeli navy base that is reportedly home to the country’s nuclear-capable submarine force, according to The Times of Israel. Israeli critics are calling for an investigation into potential security issues posed by the Chinese presence along the country’s Mediterranean coast.

At the University of Haifa’s Workshop on Future of Maritime Security in the Eastern Mediterranean conference at the end of August, Shaul Chorev, reservist brigadier general of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), former navy chief of staff, and chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, said a new mechanism was required to keep an eye on Chinese investments in Israel.

China bulldozing churches, replacing holy imagery

(South China Morning Post) A government sign outside a Catholic church in central China warns that children are not allowed to attend mass. “Illegal” churches are being bulldozed. Priests are handing over personal information about their flocks to authorities.

Roman Catholics in Henan province are running out of space to worship as the atheist Communist government steps up a campaign to “Sinicise” religions and demolishes old neighbourhoods to make way for development projects.

The campaign has intensified even as the Vatican and Beijing, which severed ties in 1951, are reportedly close to resolving a long-standing dispute over who may appoint bishops.

Dashcam video shows cop killer shooting deputies

(Macon Telegraph) A sequence of events that ended in the murders of two Peach County sheriff’s deputies nearly two years ago began with a 20-second roadside encounter on a balmy fall Sunday afternoon.

A young man was motoring down a countryside-neighborhood road on a four-wheeler. He was on the outskirts of Byron, following another guy on a dirt bike, who was popping wheelies as they sputtered along.

The young man on the four-wheeler, Kelvin Ross, was using a cellphone camera to capture live-action video of the ride. His camera was recording as they approached the south end of Hardison Road, about 10 miles northeast of Fort Valley.

At the edge of the road stood Ralph Stanley Elrod Jr., lurking at the end of his driveway, armed with a shotgun.

#WalkAway Leader’s Facebook Ban Lifted, Only to Become Target for Leftist Hit Piece

Facebook quietly lifted the ban on #WalkAway founder Brandon Straka shortly after his appearance on Thursday’s Alex Jones Show.

But instead of notifying Stroka first, the social media giant reportedly informed a reporter on the ban removal; the reporter then contacted Straka to push the narrative that he and conservatives like him were lying about social media bans.

“Facebook apparently lifted my ban – then CONTACTED A REPORTER – NOT ME- & this reporter has already put out a piece calling me a liar about the ban,” said Straka. “I just checked & the ban has been lifted.”

Straka was allegedly banned from Facebook simply for promoting his Monday interview with Alex Jones.

“FACEBOOK JUST BANNED ME AS I AM PLANNING THE #WalkAway March on Washington!!! I have been banned from posting leading up to the March. This is devastating for our ability to reach people!!! I was banned for mentioning my interview with Alex Jones. Can anybody help???”

The tweet that earned him the ban was “Hey, Patriots! I’m going live on Infowars.com in 15 minutes.”

After receiving the Facebook ban, Straka warned his followers that it is apparently a bannable offense for merely mentioning Alex Jones.

“To be clear, you can be banned for SAYING THE NAME of a person or show that they don’t like,” he said.

But former guest to Alex Jones’ show, Bill Mitchell, suggested that Straka’s potent hashtag was the actual reason for the ban.

“#WalkAway Campaign is a grassroots movement,” Straka responded. “We don’t have corporate sponsors. We don’t have backers.”

“We are raising the money and the awareness for our event ourselves. And today Facebook took away my ability to communicate with the 180,000 members of the campaign leading up to the March.”

“This is going to smash my ability to provide information, answer questions, raise money, and rally with my people,” he added. “I am crushed.”

#WalkAway is a campaign designed to move Americans, particularly progressives, away from establishment Democrats.

The hashtag-based campaign struck a nerve because it speaks to an electorate that feels abandoned.

The removal of the 30-day ban, after Straka spoke out on Thursday, demonstrates that Facebook was taking too much heat for its brazen political bias.

#WalkAway Founder: Big Tech Thinks Infowars More Dangerous than Hitler

The man behind the Walk Away movement says he won’t back down after Facebook recently banned him for daring to mention “Infowars.”

“I literally wrote the post: ‘Hey patriots, I’ll be live on Infowars in 15 minutes. Be sure to tune in,’ and I got a 30-day ban from Facebook for writing that,” Walk Away founder Brandon Straka told Alex Jones Thursday.

The former Democrat, who left the party after seeing how it sowed discord and division, discussed his experience with the big tech conservative censorship purge currently in full swing.

“Who are these people to decide for everybody else what other people can and cannot hear what they can and cannot see and what they’re allowed to know or not know?” questioned Straka.

“It’s so fascinating to me that the name Alex Jones and Infowars is so dangerous and threatening that anybody needs to be banned if they even say that name, yet people on the left 10,000 a day use the word ‘Hitler’ when speaking about our president – that’s not a problem for them. So.. the word Infowars or Alex Jones is obviously more dangerous in their mind than ‘Hitler.’”

Walk Away’s Facebook ban comes after numerous tech companies banded together last month to launch a coordinated purge of Infowars from social media sites.

Straka is still planning the Walk Away March in DC on October 26-28, where he and a group of former Democrats will walk from the Democratic National Committee headquarters to the Capitol building, literally walking away from the Democrat party.

“I envisioned this massive event where we have tens of thousands of African Americans, tens of thousands of Hispanics and LGBT people, as well as every other type of person, walking away from the Democratic party, so that everybody including these minority groups can see something’s going on, you need to be walking away and paying attention…,” Straka said.

While Facebook’s ban has taken a toll on Straka, he says his team is looking into various workarounds, as contributions continue to pour in.

Meanwhile, supporters can still donate to the march at Walkawaymarch.com.

“I’m not gonna quit and I’m not gonna give up I’m gonna keep marching on and I’m gonna fight back,” declared Straka.

Following his appearance on Infowars Thursday, Straka claimed Facebook reinstated his account without notifying him, then contacted a reporter who proceeded to write a hit piece against him and conservative icons Diamond & Silk.

“The left is out of control,” Straka concluded.

Top Google Scientist Quits Over Plan for Censored Chinese Search Engine

A top Google employee has resigned in protest of the company’s work on a censored search engine for China.

The employee, 32-year-old Jack Poulson, who worked as a senior research scientist for Google’s research and machine intelligence division, first raised concerns at the company in early August after documents published by The Intercept first revealed the project’s existence.

Known internally as Dragonfly, the censored search engine would allow the Chinese government to keep its citizens from accessing any data it deems sensitive.

Poulson, who is believed to be one of at least 5 employees to quit over Dragonfly, told The Intercept‘s Ryan Gallagher that he felt an “ethical responsibility to resign” over the “forfeiture of our public human rights commitments.”

Aside from the censored search engine, Poulson also expressed concern over customer data being hosted in China, a country notorious for targeting dissidents.

Poulson laid out his issues with Dragonfly and Google’s direction in a resignation letter to his superiors.

“Due to my conviction that dissent is fundamental to functioning democracies, I am forced to resign in order to avoid contributing to, or profiting from, the erosion of protection for dissidents,” Poulson wrote. “I view our intent to capitulate to censorship and surveillance demands in exchange for access to the market as a forfeiture of our values and governmental negotiating position across the globe.”

The decision to pursue such projects, Poulson further argued, could lead to other authoritarian regimes making similar demands.

“There is an all-too-real possibility that other nations will attempt to leverage our actions in China in order to demand our compliance with their security demands,” Poulson wrote.

Despite growing outcry over Dragonfly, Google has thus far refused to publicly comment on the project, only stating that it does not discuss “speculation about future plans.”

Just last month a group of leading human rights organizations called on Google to immediately cease its involvement with the project.

“Like many of Google’s own employees, we are extremely concerned by reports that Google is developing a new censored search engine app for the Chinese market,” a letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai said. “The Chinese government extensively violates the rights to freedom of expression and privacy; by accomodating the Chinese authorities’ repression of dissent, Google would be actively participating in those violations for millions of internet users in China.”

More than 1,400 Google employees also signed a similar letter last month demanding the company let its workers know what it was developing.

“Currently we do not have the information required to make ethically-informed decisions about our work, our projects, and our employment. That the decision to build Dragonfly was made in secret, and progressed with the [artificial intelligence] Principles in place, makes clear that the Principles alone are not enough,” the letter said. “We urgently need more transparency, a seat at the table, and a commitment to clear and open processes: Google employees need to know what we’re building.”

Google had previously built a search engine for China in 2006 but ended the program four years later after saying the Communist government attempted to curtail free speech and even tried to hack their computer systems as well.

Pichai, Google’s CEO, also refused earlier this month to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee to answer questions regarding Dragonfly.

California tells NRA it can’t sell Carry Guard insurance in state

The California insurance commissioner this week issued a cease and desist order to the National Rifle Association for marketing insurance in the state without a license.

The seven-page order, issued by Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones on Tuesday, alleges the gun rights group marketed an insurance product without properly registering with his office.

In the order, Jones contends the NRA sent emails to California residents featuring national spokeswoman Dana Loesch and chief executive Wayne LaPierre soliciting on behalf of the group’s Carry Guard-branded self-defense insurance program, something the organization was not licensed for.

Oil Drops From Four-Month Highs

Oil prices fell more than 2 percent on Thursday, with Brent slipping back from four-month highs as investors focused on the risk that emerging market crises and trade disputes could dent demand even as supply tightens.

The International Energy Agency warned that although the oil market was tightening at the moment and world oil demand would soon reach 100 million barrels per day (bpd) in the next three months, global economic risks were mounting.

“As we move into 2019, a possible risk to our forecast lies in some key emerging economies, partly due to currency depreciations versus the U.S. dollar raising the cost of imported energy,” the agency said.

FDA Approves New Treatment for Hairy Cell Leukemia

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Lumoxiti (moxetumomab pasudotox-tdfk) injection for intravenous use for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory hairy cell leukemia (HCL) who have received at least two prior systemic therapies, including treatment with a purine nucleoside analog. Lumoxiti is a CD22-directed cytotoxin and is the first of this type of treatment for patients with HCL.

“Lumoxiti fills an unmet need for patients with hairy cell leukemia whose disease has progressed after trying other FDA-approved therapies,” said Richard Pazdur, M.D., director of the FDA’s Oncology Center of Excellence and acting director of the Office of Hematology and Oncology Products in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “This therapy is the result of important research conducted by the National Cancer Institute that led to the development and clinical trials of this new type of treatment for patients with this rare blood cancer.”

HCL is a rare, slow-growing cancer of the blood in which the bone marrow makes too many B cells (lymphocytes), a type of white blood cell that fights infection. HCL is named after these extra B cells which look “hairy” when viewed under a microscope. As the number of leukemia cells increases, fewer healthy white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets are produced.

Leftist Tech Giants, ChiComs Celebrate Book Burning, In New Ben Garrison Art

The big tech elite, Democrats and the Communist Chinese government are reveling in their destruction of the First Amendment, in a new politically-incorrect cartoon from illustrator Ben Garrison.

In the past few weeks, the anti-free speech agenda of the left-leaning tech giants has become clear – destroy anyone who supports Trump and America’s recovery ahead of the midterm elections.

From Ben Garrison at GrrrGraphics.com:

The authoritarian left continues to shut down free speech and they’re getting away with it.

Their latest victim, ‘Roosh,’ sold his books for years on Amazon. His books mostly proffered advice about picking up girls. It’s an unsavory subject to many—especially feminists—but it’s his free speech and he wasn’t advising anything illegal. Bezos suddenly pulled the plug on Roosh’s books—many which were selling well. Who’s next? Conservative cartoonist books because the content offends the left?

It’s often said that the Internet and social media are the new ‘town square.’ Realizing that, the left-leaning Silicon Valley controls and monopolizes that town square. At first they claimed to be equivalent to the phone company. They provided the platform and access and let the users add the content in the form of free speech. That’s now no longer the case. Clearly Google, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are skewing content in favor of the left.

A 60 minute video of a 2016 meeting with top management at Google was released to Breitbart today, revealing their panic and dismay that Hillary had lost and Trump won. Google’s top executives, who preside over a company with unrivaled influence over the flow of information, are disparaging the motivations of Trump voters and plotting ways to use their vast resources to thwart the Trump agenda. Google is nothing more than Democrat propaganda and used to influence voters and swing elections.

Trump’s Antitrust Enforcer Strengthens Tactics

The chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, which stops mergers it believes will push up prices, signaled Thursday he was willing to consider tougher enforcement, a move that could affect high profile big tech companies but also energy producers, drug makers and a big swath of the U.S. economy.

Joseph Simons, who was nominated by President Donald Trump to head the FTC in October 2017 and began work in May, noted in a brief speech that during two previous stints at the FTC, most recently as head of the Bureau of Competition, there had been a tendency to take a relatively hands off approach to antitrust enforcement.

“But now at the beginning of my third stint at the commission, things have shifted. The broad antitrust consensus that has existed within the antitrust community in a relatively stable form for about 25 years is being challenged,” he said at a conference organized by the FTC.

U.S. foreign-born population swells to highest in over a century

The number of foreign-born people in the United States grew last year to its highest share in over a century, according to Census Bureau data published on Thursday.

The increase took the number of foreign-born residents to 44.5 million in 2017, up 1.8 percent from a year earlier.

The administration has said it wants to restrict legal immigration, and has stepped up efforts as well to detain and deport immigrants in the country illegally since President Donald Trump took office in January 2017.
