Trump Tells Iran: Negotiate New Nuclear Deal or ‘We Have to Do Something.’

President Donald J. Trump has expressed his desire to negotiate with Iran regarding its nuclear program. In an interview aired Friday, March 7, Trump disclosed that he sent a letter to Iranian leaders on Thursday.

He indicated his preference for Iran to enter negotiations, stating that it would benefit the Islamic Republic. “I said, I hope you’re going to negotiate, because it’s going to be a lot better for Iran,” Trump said.

The letter was reportedly addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Its specific contents have not been disclosed, and the White House has yet to provide additional information.

Trump emphasized the urgency of the situation, citing the potential threat posed by another nuclear power. “The other alternative [to negotiations] is we have to do something,” he warned.

Last month, President Trump signed an executive order to exert “maximum pressure” on Iran, renewing energy sanctions. While President Trump has adopted a hard line on Iran, he has also refused to embroil the United States in any regime change schemes.
